Little Cumbrae Island
Bramble & Bug Ltd have been working with the new owners of the Island of Little Cumbrae, located in the Firth of Clyde of the west coast of Scotland, to develop a strong brand and graphic identity for a new international center for yog and healthy living that is to open there in 2010. We were also commissioned to design and produce a plethora of large format event media for a global inauguration event held on the island in September 2009. This consisted of everything from visitor guide booklets to huge information and directional signs and detailed points of interest maps, all carrying the brand and identity we delivered in the acclaimed new "Wee Cumbrae" coat of arms.
The Wee Cumbrae Coat of Arms [from the press]
The Wee Cumbrae Crest is to become an internationally recognised brand for the home of the first Yog and Ayurved centre outside of India.
The Crest has been inspired by Wee Cumbrae’s rich history, which is evidenced by ancient remains on the island including a 13th century castle keep and the iconic images which have long been associated with the Island, such as the 28ft high tower of the Old Lighthouse, which was built in 1757.
The grand, baronial-style crest design and the gilted colour scheme conveys the ancient, historic, Scottish estate connections which are deeply rooted in this Island’s glorious past.
The island’s location and the abundance of sea life and wildlife that populate the island and its shores are featured in the individual segments of the crest. The Patanjali Yog Peeth Trust logo in the top left segment interconnects man with chakras sitting in the Lotus position, the universally recognised sacred symbol of the Aum, the pestle and mortal which signifies the ancient healing of Ayurved medicine, and the sun which symbolises energy. The Sanskrit, Peace Island, is the affectionate term which will be informally associated with Wee Cumbrae.
Altogether, the crest symbolise the ancient as well as the new influences that are to feature in this exciting new chapter of the island’s future.
The Wee Cumbrae crest and all artwork relating to the Wee Cumbrae operations has been designed by one of Scotland’s newest and brightest creative agencies, Bramble & Bug Ltd.
